Fitou Brasserie

Yesterday was a public dayoff to celebrate Hari Haji for the muslims, but for the non-muslims it’s a holidaaaaay! Don’t you just love working in Malaysia? :D
Bin has been raving about this place called Fitou Brasserie at Desa Park City that we must give it a try. In KL it’s really hard to find a smokefree and baby friendly Bistro and true enough, the experience didn’t disappoint us. ;)

This Spaghetti Carbonara has its egg served separately. I’m usually not a carbonara fan but I have to say the taste is really awesome.

Archilles Tendonitis

Counting down to T- 3 days to Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM).
Received the running bib and package in the post over the weekend, I should be excited right? But the right ankle is a really sad case! I’m currently torn between the idea of pushing myself in spite of injury or give it amiss this time round. It’s my very first half-marathon and every tendon and nerves in my running soul had wanted to go for it; on the other hand, pain is a secondary concern but what if the Achilles tear or rupture?
Should I be wise and listen to the doctor or follow my heart? PBIM
Decision Time!

Terry Fox 2010

This is my forth year participating in Terry Fox Charity Run but this time around, I didn’t run.
IMG_0934-1
This year, they have changed the location from the usual Lake Gardens to Titiwangsa Park. Personally, it wasn’t a great idea because of the way the route was planned. Both short and long routes are the same! For those who opted for the longer run (6km) will have to repeat loops which caused mega human traffic congestion. It was more like a walk in the park!

I miss everything…

I saw and loved in San Francisco!
DSC_9614
It was just barely a month ago where I stepped foot onto US soil for the very first time. I was very lucky that San Francisco was picked as the conference location, a place I had very little imagination of prior to the trip but turned out to be the city I have fallen in love with!
I will tell you why in the next few posts.

Las Vacas at Mont Kiara

This cute little butchery shop deserves a writeup since I went there for two days consecutively. I’m not usually a red meat person but I do enjoy a good steak occasionally with a glass or two full bodied red wine.
IMG_0197
First time I was there, it was a beautiful evening. They have limited tables, hence it’s always recommend to call them for reservation.

Wedding at Courtyard Garden

I’ve always loved small and intimate weddings. They are so much more personal and warm. Just like this one I attended on Sunday at Courtyard Garden , my high school mate Rachel tied the knot with her beau Kenneth.

Self-Discovery in Bali

How would I describe this feeling? I was in a state of euphoria as I walked out of Denpasar Airport this afternoon. I'm finally doing this! I've always wanted to travel on my own, walking at my own pace in my personal itinerary (ie none) on a foreign land. Beach is a must tho. I've done this in Barcelona but that's was 5 years ago. Those days I was living in a place of freedom yet my life as a student was a constraint. And now it's the other way round, I'm a free person living in a place filled with constraints. Life always work out in a funny way, doesn’t it? Wish I had the entire trip to myself but for the time being, even 2 days of me-time on this foreign island is good enough!
I'm currently sitting at this alfresco chic bar called Vi Ai Pi, sipping Vodka Madras while making my thoughts known on my Blackberry. I was so carried away by this refreshing sense of freedom that, I forgot I haven’t eaten since 7am today and I wasn't the least bit hungry! The live band here is awesome. People are super friendly too...
So today, upon checking into the hotel I was more than delightful to be given a free upgrade to a suite. Niceeeee! I also ordered a room service Balinese massage before venturing into Kuta town centre. Witnessed the most beautiful sunset at the beach, took some nice shots of random couples; got intimidated by persistent sellers; went shopping for a new pair of Havaiana; passed through Legian Street where I stopped for a beer and now chilling here where the live band keeps playing with my sentiment…

There's so much self-discovery done in just a day....

Diving in Perhentian Kecil

About three weeks ago, I ran away from the city to this beautiful island for a weekend getaway. Pulau Perhentian is a little gem located in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia where it offers fine sandy white beach and beautiful marine world. Exactly what I needed for a little breather.

Broga Hill

I've seen some nice pictures of Broga Hill all over fb but the thought of having to wake up at 4am just didn't sound too appealing.

Finally, I decided to make an effort to see the real Broga Hill myself on Sunday. Thanks to John Heng who invited me along for this outing.

Let’s Sea at Hua Hin – Part 1

I will split this mega long post into 3 parts.
Pictures paint a thousand words… so will just let visuals do the talking.

Upon reaching Let’s Sea Resort, we were given fresh towel and welcome drink while the friendly receptionist took us through the check-in process.

Hua Hin

My friend Vic recently asked about places that I’d recommend as an “extraordinary getaway” from KL without burning a huge hole in the pocket. Well, me thinks there’s no better places like Let’s Sea Resort in Hua Hin if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing break isolated from the hustle and bustle. The place is quite remote and the journey to get there can be quite a pain, but trust me, you will not regret it. The boutique resort itself is already impressive enough to make all the hassles worthwhile.

Hua Hin is a beach resort town along the coastal area 200km south of Bangkok. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours drive by taxi and approximately 4 hours by train to get there; costs about 2500-3000 bahts and 400 bahts for a one way journey respectively. However if you are opting for train, I strongly encourage to get the fast speed train which takes off at 8am every morning from Bangkok Railway station.

Road Trip to Penang

Had an awesome 3 days 2 nights trip to Penang over the Wesak long weekend break. Imagine this, 5 to 6 meals a day… Basically we were eating non-stop! I definitely need a tank size stomach for this sort of trip lol. Will let pictures tell the story.

Diver’s Den

Just completed my second diving class last night.
Half way through the class, it started to rain when we were doing our stuff under the water with our regulator on and all that. So I was watching different sizes of raindrops dancing on the surface of water from below, which I find kinda cool.

We have to learn how to install oxygen tank into our BCD jackets, regulator, weight management, all kind of things to expect in times of emergency and how to deal with them etc.

Working Out at Batu Caves

Few days ago the girls suggested to go to Batu Caves for a workout after work.
Workout? as in exercise?? In Batu Cave??? You may wonder…
Yes you heard that right!

IMG00329-20100426-1925
The girls who have conquered Mt. KK claim that Batu Cave is the best place for mountain training, better than any stepping machines you can get in the gym! These steep flight of steps really works the core muscles around the legs area, hamstring and pelvic and most importantly, it builds stamina. With some level of consistency, your body will result in super toned calves and a perky butt!

IMG00324-20100426-1912
There are 272 Steps! I kid you not

IMG00325-20100426-1919
The place stink of bat poo real bad! I was sniffing my towel the whole time.

Day Trip to Ipoh

It’s been a while last since I went on a road trip like that. After a few smses exchanged on a Saturday evening, LihBin, PohSze and I were all set for a day trip to Ipoh the next morning. I did have a hidden agenda though, I wanted to go back to visit Bin and 10 days old baby Charlotte.

Café Café, KL

I’ve been meaning to blog about this place for ages but never got round to doing it till now. Café Café is an Italian + French restaurant in KL, a place I’ve heard of for many years through word of mouth, blogs and forums alike. Apparently it’s the only “Parisian” restaurant (or close to for the lack of a better word) ever existed in Malaysia… few months ago I finally had a chance to experience it myself.

Reviews suggested the restaurant wasn’t easy to find; it's true. hint: Once you reach Edinburgh roundabout, look left the shop is right in front you.

IMG_1735
IMG_1729

Restaurant was tastefully decorated with dimly lit chandeliers, “Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain” was playing in the background, overall ambience was quite romantic. However, I couldn’t feel I was anywhere near Paris at all. Did I set expectation a tad too high? I find it really weird when some diners started walking in with their shorts and slippers while me and dining buddy all dolled up for the New Year Eve celebration.

    IMG_1777
But food wise I couldn’t complain though…

OPUS, Bangsar

After few weeks of doldrums for turning another year older soon, Bin said we were going for a little celebration and I could pick the place. Anywhere I want, apparently. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone made it to OPUS just right on time amidst thunder and lightning from the madness downpour last night. These darlings, includes HongYeen who drove all the way from Ipoh just for the dinner ; Jacqueline who had to leave hubby at home to babysit Belle; Mel and Tim but most of all, the 9 months preggar who pulled everyone together for this.
IMG_8967
Had a splendid time with the girls.
IMG_8940
I was missing C and @monnlee … and there, her sms came at such perfect timing
IMG_8970IMG_8974
Indeed, apart from starters we also ordered many main courses.
Grilled Sirloin, Lamb Cutlet, Roasted Cod, Salmon Steak, Angel Hair Pasta with Foie Gras were among some of them. Food was yummilicious! Esp. roasted cod and lamb cutlet were really really good.
IMG_8999IMG_9009
Pancake, Tiramisu and Crème brûlée were NOT GREAT.
IMG_9005
7 main courses, 4 starters, 3 desserts and a bottle of wine, the bill came up to around RM800. Price is slightly above average but the portion is huge! So it is fair to share a main course after all.
IMG_9011
After dinner, we headed to Vintry at Damansara Heights for more wine, chitchat and stayed till to 2am and called it a night.
